Overview TESLA MODEL Y 2023

While it’s more popular with buyers than the Model 3 sedan it’s
based on, the 2023 Tesla Model Y is a far less satisfying offering. The
electric crossover feels more clumsy on a twisty road and offers less driving
range, though it still tops competitors in this area, such as the Ford Mustang
Mach-E and Volkswagen ID.4. Like the Model 3, the Y’s interior is finished with
low-quality materials and all the SUV’s controls are accessed through a single
infotainment display mounted on the dashboard. Its price also puts it in
contention with luxury EV SUVs like the Audi Q8 e-tron, Cadillac Lyriq, and
Genesis GV60, all of which offer more punch and better build quality. But the
Model Y can be had with a feature those utes don’t offer, which gives it a leg
up with family buyers with young children: a third row of seats.

What is new for 2023?

A new base Model Y with a 279-mile range is coming for 2023,
otherwise, the Model Y will make it through 2023 unchanged. But, the company is
known to make changes on the fly, so this model year could see changes later.

Buying an electric car is all about driving range, and the Long
Range and Performance models offer a range of 330 and 303 miles respectively.
We’d go with the Long Range, which maximizes driving range while offering
plenty of performance. There are a few ways to customize your Model Y and only
five exterior colors — three of which cost extra. Those who want optional
third-row seats can add them for an extra $3000.

EV motor, power, and
performance

The TESLA Model Y 2023  lineup does not include standard Range rear-wheel drive
cost-leader trim. There is no harm; The Model Y 2023 long-range and performance
models are still more compelling than the standard range trim, and the new base
model comes with the same dual-motor all-wheel drive setup as the other two.
Thanks to a generous Car and Driver reader, we were able to test an all-wheel
drive Long Range, which zipped from zero to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, a mere
0.4 off our long-term Model 3 sedan. The second is behind. The Performance
model blasted to 60 miles per hour in our testing in 3.6 seconds. While the
Model Y offers impressive acceleration, it doesn’t deliver the same driving
satisfaction as the Model 3. The SUV body creates a high center of gravity,
which dampens the sharp edge of the Model 3’s handling, and the Y’s ride is
quite stiff over road imperfections.

Range, Charging, and
Battery Life

All-wheel drive offers a range of 330 miles. The performance  of the Tesla Model Y 2023 estimated range drops to
303 miles. But the latter comes with 20-inch wheels, lower suspension, a higher
top speed (155 mph), quicker claimed acceleration, and a dedicated track mode.
The entry-level model comes with a different battery pack than the other two,
and its range is shorter at 279 miles per charge.

Fuel Economy and
Real-World MPGe

The EPA estimates that the Long Range model is good for 127 MPGe in
the city and 117 MPGe on the highway, while the Performance model’s fuel
economy is estimated at 115 MPGe city and 106 MPGe highway. The Long Range
model we tested on our 200-mile highway fuel economy test route recorded just
94 MPGe and an estimated highway driving range of 220 miles, while the
Performance model got 98 MPGe and a 230-mile driving range. Presented the

Interior, Comfort, and
Cargo

The  TESLA Model Y 2023 doesn’t
come with the complicated falcon wing doors of the larger Model X crossover.
Its interior carries over much of the Model 3 sedan. Like this car, it’s
largely devoid of buttons and relies mostly on a large infotainment display
centered on a simple dashboard.

 An all-glass roof gives the cabin an airy feel
but is heavily tinted to avoid roasting occupants in the Sun Belt states. An optional
third row of seats adds $3000 to the Model Y’s price — we can’t imagine they’ll
be roomy enough for adults to ride in comfort.
