notable changes:

Honda Civic fourth generation review & All Specfication

Suspension: It introduced a novel double wishbone
suspension at the front and an independent suspension at the rear, which
improved the vehicle’s handling and ride comfort.

Wheelbase: The wheelbase was extended to 250 cm (98
in), longer than the third generation, which improved stability and created
more interior space.

Body Design: The body was redesigned with a
lower hood line and increased glass area, resulting in improved aerodynamics,
reduced drag, and a more contemporary look.

Model Introduction: The redesigned Civic debuted
in 1987 for the 1988 model year.

Variants: The fourth-generation Civic, also known as
the “EF Civic”, was available in three body configurations: a 3-door
hatchback, 4-door sedan, and 5-door wagon. Different trim levels were offered
for each variant to cater to diverse customer preferences.

During the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, civic community
enthusiasts instituted abbreviated naming systems. In this system, they used a
Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) code for each vehicle instead of a generation number.
Consequently, this particular model of the car is commonly referred to as the
“EF Civic”. Following this naming convention, the fourth generation
model is referred to simply as “EF”, the fifth generation as
“EG” and the sixth generation as “EK”. This exercise made
it easier for fans to identify and discuss the different civilian races based
on their JDM codes.
