2024 Lucid Air Overview

The amount of engineering required to design the 2024 Lucid Air is
staggering in itself. Name another electric car that can jump from 0 to 60 mph
in 3.0 seconds and then glide for over 400 miles before needing to recharge.
Even high-dollar rivals like the Porsche Tycoon, Mercedes-AMG QS53, and Tesla
Model S can only do one of these things. The new Air Sapphire Performance model
is even quicker. A claimed 60 mph time of under 2.0 seconds. Lucid achieved
these heroic feats with clever tech, a new battery design, and power-dense
electric motors that benefit from the company’s experience in Formula E racing. 

On top of all this, the Air wears a designer look and has a premium cabin that
is spacious for four adults, even when traveling long distances. The sedan’s
nearly six-figure starting price leaves us wanting a bit more in terms of
interior luxury, but the Air’s cabin is nonetheless stylish and upscale. Like
other start-up automakers, in-car tech is still a moving target, but the Air’s
three-screen dashboard promises to improve over time with over-the-air updates
from the brand’s Silicon Valley headquarters. Directly to the complex circuitry

What is new in 2024?

As if the wind needed more power, 2024 Lucid Air launched a
high-performance Sapphire trim for 2024, complete with three electric motors
that pump out 1234 horsepower. To go along with the Sapphire’s mega-power
powertrain, Lucid has retuned the suspension, tweaked the traction control
system, installed carbon ceramic brake rotors, and unique wheels with
extra-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. have been changed. At the other end
of the Air’s lineup, there’s a new entry-level rear-wheel-drive Pure model with
an attractively low cost and an estimated driving range of 410 miles.

Pricing and Which One
to Buy

We’ll move on to the Turing model. It offers a lot to like and is
priced considerably less than the Grand Touring trim. The Touring offers
20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, in-dash navigation, and an approximate
driving range of 425 miles per charge. All Lucid models come standard with
three years of free charging via the Electrify America charging network. The
best Dream Edition models are officially sold out, but if you want to maximize
your luxury — and your out-of-pocket costs — the Grand Touring trim offers the
bulk of the dream.

EV motor, power, and
performance

The entry-level Air Purifier features a single electric motor that
drives the rear wheels and generates 430 horsepower. Other models have dual electric
motors that provide all-wheel drive and different horsepower ratings: the
Touring model makes 620 horses, and the Grand Touring makes 1050. A blistering
3.0 seconds to 60 mph, a feat that is easily repeated using the car’s launch
mode. The lower-priced and underpowered Touring model ran from 0 to 60 mph in a
similar 3.0 seconds. Pak followed in 3.5 seconds. The power deficit for the
Pure and Touring models is more noticeable on the way to 130 mph, which the
Touring managed to dispatch in 12.0 seconds compared to the Grand Touring which
did it in 10.3. Despite riding on conventional steel coil springs rather than
air springs, the sedan felt quiet and smooth in the aptly named Smooth Drive
mode. Our main complaint was our example’s 21-inch wheels on low-profile
performance tires, which produced noticeable road noise over a section of rough
pavement. The new top dog is the 1234 horsepower Lucid Air Sapphire, which has
three electric motors. The extra motor is mounted in the rear and delivers
insanely fast performance to rival the Tesla Model S Plaid. 2024 Lucid Air also
claims a top speed of 200 miles per hour.

Range, Charging, and
Battery Life

According to EPA estimates, the 2024 Lucid Air has the longest
range of any electric vehicle currently on the market. Grand Touring models of
the Air feature a 112.0-kWh battery pack and DC fast charging capability, while
Pure and Touring trims use a smaller 92-kWh version. The base Pure has an
estimated driving range of 410 miles, while the mid-range Touring has an
estimated 425 miles per charge. The Grand Touring and Grand Touring Performance
models offer a range of up to 516 and 446 miles, respectively. On our 75 mph
highway route, the Grand Touring went 410 miles, making it the longest-range EV
we’ve tested.

 The Touring we tested only went 280 miles before recharging, and
the Pure went 310 miles before the battery died. Plugged into a fast charger,
the sedan is said to cover 300 miles in 21 minutes. New owners also enjoy three
years of free fast charging at Electrify America charging stations. There is no
limit to the number of times owners can charge their cars, as long as it is
used for personal and not commercial purposes.

Fuel Economy and
Real-World MPGe

The most efficient 2024 Lucid Air is rated at 131 MPGe combined and Performance versions are rated at 111 MPGe combined. During our test drive
of the Grand Touring model, however, we recorded just 82 MPGe; The Touring did
better, resulting in 107 MPGe and the Pure gave us 101 MPGe. For more

Interior, Comfort, and
Cargo

Make no mistake, the 2024 Lucid Air is meant to be a luxury car, and
its elegant interior is packed with rich-looking materials and cutting-edge
technology. Lucid is particularly proud of the sedan’s spacious passenger
space, which is highlighted by a large back seat. While the standard rear seat
is said to be comfortable for up to three adults, there is also an optional
Executive Rear Seating option that adds a recline function for ultimate
comfort.

 The Air’s glass roof makes it feel even more airy and helps with
visibility. The sedan’s front center console appears to offer generous storage
space behind the retractable lower touchscreen and within the large center
console bin, which has cup holders as well as slots for keeping smartphones.
We’re also told that its front trunk — or trunk — will have 10 cubic feet of
volume.
